Behind them rises a towering wall of modern high-rise apartments, the mark of a decade-long real-estate boom that has transformed villages into dense vertical neighborhoods. Set against the city’s ubiquitous waters, this quiet juxtaposition captures the unique, rapidly evolving urban landscape only seen in modern China.
