On a hazy February afternoon, a family lingers by the riverbank in Hankou, caught up in the simple act of skipping stones and watching the water. Across the Yangtze, modern skyscrapers catch the fading sun, standing tall yet hollow. In the wide space between them lie big dreams put on hold as the river carries on.
